Step back from your computer for a second and recall your actual on-campus tour where each guide lends their personality and experiences in relaying the story of your institution to prospective students and their parents. Now imagine a virtual tour that helped humanize your institution through the personalities, vignettes and tales spun by current students. Tour guides not only allow you to imbue your presentations with the personalities of the tour guides, but they allow you to fashion distinct experiences for different admissions constituencies (continuing education students, graduate students, transfer students, international students, parents, etc.) or by department or program (Linda is the guide for Arts & Humanities, Devin the Guide for Business, and Becky the guide for Mathematics & Sciences etc.)

CampusTours content-managed guided tours can even allow you to separate the "guide video" from the "coordinated content video" vastly reducing the costs associated with creating new guides. For an example of a Coordinated Video Guided Tour, please click here.

CampusTours' extensive research into how prospective students digest college admissions videos online has led to some interesting conclusions: (1) that more than forty percent (40%) of prospective students will abandon online university videos before they reach the six minute mark, (2) that students watching admissions videos differ in what aspects of the videos they like and dislike, primarily according to their interests, and (3) that students, almost uniformly, indicated a desire to be able to get more information on topics within the video that interested them.

CampusTours has used our research to develop a technology known as InteractiveVideo which allows colleges to insert content-managed "teaser points" into university videos. When video playback reaches one of these points, a "teaser balloon" animates to alert the visitor that there is additional content available pertaining to the topic currently being discussed in the video. CampusTours focus groups have indicated that this technology is extremely intuitive and popular with prospective students.

CampusTours research indicates that delivering a first-time prospective student visitor directly into an interactive map experience leaves them very frustrated. Most prospective students aren't familiar with your institution yet, and they prefer to learn about your institution in general before delving into the detail of your campus map. However, once you have enticed a prospective student with a compelling multimedia presentation, and they decide they want to learn more about your campus, or wish to visit, the campus map becomes an essential component.

CampusTours studies also confirm that the quality of your base map can have a big effect on the overall impression of your campus. While many institutions view campus maps simply as way-finding devices, there is a growing realization that a well constructed campus map rendering can make your institution seem more like home, and less like a collection of cold blocks.

CampusTours artists can develop a new base map of your campus for print and Web usage, and our content-managed interactive maps give colleges tremendous power to update the map, add layers to highlight particular information (parking areas, emergency call boxes, accessible entrances, dormitories, academic buildings, cafeterias etc.) and add/update any type of content including photos, slideshows, panoramas, videos and text.
