The Rutgers University New Brunswick virtual WalkingTour has been awarded the October 2013 CampusTours Four Star Tour Award.
The Rutgers University New Brunswick Virtual WalkingTour is a guided video tour experience for prospective students and parents with eight (8) separate tours, more than forty (40) individual tour stops, hundreds of student commentary videos, and smartphone features that allow visitors to tour campus even when Rutgers is closed. The Rutgers University virtual visit is based on the new CampusTours www.WalkingTour.com platform, combining video tour guides with slideshows of still images to paint a complete portrait of each stop on the tour. On many stops the Rutgers WalkingTour features Student Commentaries that give prospective students additional personal insights from current Rutgers students. Many stops on the tour also include Explore Video links that provide deeper explorations of the topic.
The Rutgers University WalkingTour works fluidly on mobile devices, with identical tablet and desktop experiences, and a smartphone experience that includes an optional GPS mode allowing users to have content pushed to their smartphones as they approach campus buildings and landmarks. Content on smartphones can be flicked from side to side as panels are added allowing visitors to explore freely without concern for the layering of multiple windows.
Navigating the Rutgers University WalkingTour is easy, with a list of stops in each tour and a handy campus map at the lower left that can be used to click around campus or expanded to learn more about the proximity of particular campus destinations. At various points in the experience, University tour guides encourage the visitor to complete the Rutgers information request form and join the mailing list helping the institution turn stealth visitors into applicants. Rutgers intends to update the WalkingTour with additional campuses, stops, foreign language tour guides, and more student and faculty commentary videos in the future to reflect the constantly changing and dynamic nature of New Jersey's largest university.
